Boys’ basketball:
SOUTHERN WAYNE 77, NORTH LENOIR 59
Javonta King had 16 points and four rebounds as the Hawks fell to Southern Wayne Friday.
Jalen Robinson added 12 points, two rebounds and two assists for the North Lenoir.
The Hawks were 11-30 for the free throw line and had 28 turnovers. NL had 38 rebounds and 10 total assists in the contest. Southern Wayne’s leading scorer was Tarvis Bradshaw with 17 points.
NL (1-1) hosts C.B. Aycock Tuesday in its home opener.
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. 56, BETHEL 54 (2 OT)
The Trojans lost in Game 1 of the Southeastern College Invitational in Raleigh in a double overtime this weekend.
However, in a consoltation game, Bethel defeated Cramerton Christian. Davon Edwards had 25 points, while Hunter Truett and Ben Potter combined for 25.
The Trojans play at Oakwood on Monday.
SOUTH LENOIR 72, SPRING CREEK 34
Jonta Midgette had a team-high 16 points and added six rebounds in Friday’s win over Spring Creek.
JaQuan Wooten had 15 points and five boards, while Dominic Williams led the Blue Devils with seven assists and five steals.
Williams had 15 points for SL; Wuanya Cooper had 11 and Jadarius Mickens had 10 for all the Blue Devils scoring in double figures.
SL (3-0) plays its first home game Tuesday against Richlands.
Girls’ basketball:
SOUTH LENOIR 59, SPRING CREEK 43
The Blue Devils were led by Marquia Suddeth for 18 points and 16 boards Friday in the win over Spring Creek
Meosha Franklin had 11 points and seven rebounds, while Demeyia Adams had 11 points and 19 rebounds. Sophomore Hailey West added eight points, six assists and three steals. Freshman Keely Gates had six points.
After closing up a three-game stint on the road, the Blue Devils (2-1) host Richlands in their home opener Tuesday.
BETHEL GIRLS TAKE SECOND IN INVIATIONAL
Bethel defeated Gateway Virginia Beach, Va. in Game 1 of the SCI in Raleigh this weekend. The Trojans defeated Hilltop Fuquay Varina in the semi-finals and lost to Cramerton Christian in the championship game.
Jensen and Kelsey Worthington were named to the All-Tournament team.
