Area restaurant ratings

The following restaurant inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:

Hwy. 55

2405 N. Herritage St., Kinston

Score: 92.5

Inspection date: Sept. 27

Observations:

Remember to remove gloves & actually wash bare hands

Need soap at hand sink

Paper towels stuck in dispenser in ladies room

You shall not wash lemons, oranges or anything other than hands in the hand-wash sink

When LCHD entered, no hair restraints were on; hat was put on after LCHD arrived

Some equipment not in best repair

Need to clean: Hood, refrigerators, freezer, sink corners, hand sinks, shelves in back and under prep tables, outer surfaces of ice machine, drip pans/fountain drink dispensers

Floor, wall and ceiling cleaning needed

Several areas of floor need repairing

Still need protective shields with end caps over bulbs in back part of kitchen

 


Hardee's

1344 U.S. 258 S., Kinston

Inspection date: Oct. 4

Observations:

Manager in charge is not fulfilling duties (cooking temps)

Employee adjusts clothing, then scratches ear, then touches clean pan

Cooking temps for several pieces of chicken range from 159-201F

One chicken tender in hot hold was less than 135F

Few food employeese are wearing jewelry other than smooth rings

Food employee wears no hair restraint

Remember to switch out in-use utensils every four hours

Clean nonfood surfaces throughout (repeat observation)

Dumpster open; shall remain closed

Clean floors, walls and ceilings as needed

 

Ruby Tuesday

3725 W. Vernon Ave., Kinston

Score: 90

Inspection date: Oct. 4

Observations:

Person in charge present but not taking corrective actions regarding both large prep refrigerator units being in bad repair

Proper procedure for hand washing includes using paper towel to turn off water to avoid recontaminating hands

Staff needs to be reminded to properly wash hands before putting on gloves

Several pans spread out to air dry in dish room; these have remnants of day dots and food debris on them

Both refrigerators are in bad repair; not maintaining food below 45F (Notice of Intent to Suspend or Revoke Permit issued. If the health department determines that all violations have been corrected before 30 days expire, the suspension will not go into effect.)

Food items in top of large prep refrigerator at end of cook line - pull down lid is in bad repair; white bread-like stuff from insulation dropping in food

Refrigeration units, drawer fronts, refrigerator drawers under grill - bad repair

Thorough cleaning needed throughout facility

Each hand-wash sink needs a trash can

 

Sandpiper Seafood

7877 U.S. 70 West, La Grange

Score: 96.5

Inspection date: Oct. 4

Observations:

Do not place dirty cloths in hand sink (oyster bar)

Dish machine final rinse not reaching 180F

Good job dating salads, slaw. Remember to date bag of shredded cheese and gallons of milk if they will be held more than 24 hours in refrigerator.

Fettucine noodles are on day seven; whatever isn't used tonight must be discarded

Couple of wet cloths in main kitchen

Tape on ice machine door, booster heater not operating properly, some coolers worn/no longer easily cleanable

Cleaning needed - coolers for potatoes, drainboards of sink and dish machine, hand sinks in oyster bar

Floors, walls - some repair/maintenance needed
