Kinston police arrested two men for marijuana possession Nov. 25, and one was on parole and allegedly illegally carrying a firearm.
Officers with the Kinston Department of Public Safety approached Alkein Aljawun Muhammad, 24, and Demonte Donte Olds, 31, in the 300 block of South Adkin Street a few minutes past 11:30 a.m.
“They initiated a contact with Mr. Olds on posted property at Kinston Housing Authority, (and) discovered 14 individually wrapped baggies of marijuana in the suspect’s front pocket, and charges are pending,” KDPS spokesman Woody Spencer said Wednesday.
Olds has since been charged with felony possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana.
Officers also searched Muhammad, who was on parole for a conviction on felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury.
“They seized a .45-caliber semiautomatic handgun and two grams of marijuana,” Spencer said. “Officers received information that the subject was on Kinston Housing Authority property after actually signing a letter not to do so.
“The suspect was arrested for second-degree trespassing and the search incident to arrest revealed the above charges, which were, basically, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon and simple possession of marijuana.”
Two grams of marijuana is slightly more than a sixteenth of an ounce.
Muhammad served time in state prison from July 2009 to September of this year, and was scheduled to be on parole until May 2014. He’s due in Lenoir County District Court on Dec. 9 for the marijuana charge and Dec. 10 for the other two.
Olds received probation in 2010 for four misdemeanors, and is scheduled to be in Lenoir County Superior Court on Dec. 17 on his felony possession of marijuana charge.
