The former Exxon gas station at the corner of North Herritage Street and Plaza Boulevard is being torn down to make way for a future ternate.
Gram Spear, vice president of Perry Management, said the station, which was built during the 1960s, is being torn down because it has fallen into a state of disrepair.
“We are just trying to clean up the corner and make it look nice,” he said
He said the property is currently up for lease, and there has already been some interest.
“We are talking to folks now and trying to get someone to come to Kinston to open up something new,” he said.
He said possible business for the site include a gas station, restaurant or retail.
