A man and a woman suspected of breaking into a Jackson Heights building were arrested Thursday.

A neighbor reported two people were taking metal from a storage building shortly after 4:45 p.m., and he confronted the pair while armed.

The alleged theft occurred in the 400 block of Pear Street.

The suspects ran into the woods, but were later captured by deputies with the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office.

According to an LCSO release, Joshua Gumm, 24, and Rosa Ana Tovar, 22, admitted to taking about $1,100 in metal. They both lived at the same Susie Road residence, which is in the same neighborhood as the scene of the incident.

“In this case, my deputies were able to quickly locate and arrest these two suspects because of the actions of a community resident,” Lenoir County Sheriff Chris Hill said in a statement. “The Jackson Heights neighborhood has a strong community watch and these folks, like others, are intolerant to crime.”

Both suspects were charged with felony breaking and entering and felony larceny and were placed into the Lenoir County Detention Center under $30,000 bonds.
