A Kinston man driving in Tampa, Fla. was involved in a fatal collision with a man on a motorcycle Wednesday.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, William James Croom, 27, of Kinston, was in a 1998 Ford Taurus and turned left at an intersection, but didn’t notice the motorcycle headed in his direction.
Amir Omar Abukhdeir, 40, was on the 2000 Yamaha Road Star that collided with Croom’s vehicle, hitting the Taurus on its passenger side.
Abukhdeir was wearing a helmet, but later died at a hospital from his injuries. Croom and a passenger received treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
An HCSO release notes Croom consented to a toxicology analysis and was found not to be impaired at the time of the incident.
No charges have been filed and the case remains under investigation.
“Anytime there’s a fatal (collision), the detectives have up to 90 days to complete their investigation,” said Debbie Carter, public information officer with the HCSO.
