The following information was provided by the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office:
On December 14 around 6:30 p.m., the 911 center received a call of a home invasion-type burglary at 2679 Canady Road, Grifton.
The caller reported that three suspects had forced their way into the home and held the occupants and children at gunpoint. The suspects reportedly entered the home through an unlocked front door.
Once inside, the suspects - who were wearing bandanas on their faces - began forcing the children onto the floor. One of the suspects reportedly tried to remove a small child from the couch in the living room.
The suspects were then confronted by the mother and father of several of the children (Fernando Garcia & Lucrecia Garcia) in the home. At the time, the Garcia’s and two other relatives were cooking in the back of the home and were not aware that the suspects had entered until one of the children ran to alert them.
Once confronted by the adults, the suspects fled the home, eventually getting into a small green and beige Mitsubishi which was driven by a fourth suspect.
Relatives of the home chased the Mitsubishi from Canady Road, Grifton to Grifton-Hugo Road where the vehicle lost control and stopped in the front yard of a home. At the time it was raining heavily and it is believed that the vehicle hydroplaned.
It was reported that two suspects ran from the vehicle into the woods. The other suspects were held by the relatives of the family until deputies arrived.
Two suspects - Marquise Marcus Clark and Jajuan Edward Hubbard - were both taken into custody by deputies. Approximately 20 minutes later, LCSO Sgt. Michael Williams found the other two suspects standing at an intersection not far from the scene of the accident. The suspects were standing in the pouring rain, muddy and not wearing shoes.
All of the suspects were taken back to the victim’s home on Canady Road and were positively identified. All have been charged with first degree burglary, second degree kidnapping, and three counts of felony conspiracy. All were placed under a $200,000 bond.
