A show expected to come back after a three-year hiatus will be postponed for another year.
The Grainger-Hill Performing Arts Center has cancelled its Sounds of the Season Christmas event, which was originally scheduled for Thursday.
GHPAC President Alison Merritt said there were solid acts and components, but didn’t want to put together a rushed production.
“We had some good acts, but we started six weeks out and since we were bringing this event back, we didn’t want to do it halfway,” Merritt said. “We didn’t have as many acts as we would’ve liked and didn’t want it to be a poor production. It’s not in the performer’s best interest.”
Merritt said the focus has shifted to make Sounds of the Season a great event next year.
“We’re preparing for it now and we’re working hard to have top-notch entertainment,” Merritt said. “We’ve got plenty of local talent, and might get a few people from out of town. Also, next year, we’ll have dancers, so we’ll let the dance teachers know next fall, so when their classes come in they can prepare for it.”
GHPAC Vice President Barbara Smith said the decision to cancel Sounds of the Season was a good one considering the short amount of time to ensure a solid production.
“It takes lot of time and effort to put together a great show,” Smith said. “We had a lot going on with other shows, and this one just didn’t fall into place. It’s nobody’s fault; we just didn’t want to do something that wasn’t nearly as great as what we usually done. Sometimes, things don’t happen like you want them to.”
Merritt said citizens can plan on enjoying a wonderful production next year.
“Expect a great show next December,” Merritt said. “We didn’t have enough time this year, but next year, we’ll be ready.”
