PINK HILL – Three suspects allegedly assaulted and shot a man in a camper early Wednesday morning.

“What it was, we had three black males wearing masks or something over their face came in to the camper over here at 503 Pine View Ave. and I guess they got in a struggle a little bit, and he was hit in the head with a gun – with the pistol – a couple times, and then he got shot,” Pink Hill Police Chief Joey Thigpen said.

He said the suspects were armed with a revolver, a semi-automatic handgun and a rifle.

The incident was reported at 2:44 a.m. and the victim was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Thigpen said the suspects left the scene in a small sedan – possibly burgundy in color – headed toward Duplin County on N.C. 241.

The investigation is ongoing. Those with information on the case are encouraged to call the Pink Hill police at 252-568-4102.
