A Kinston man went to the hospital, and when he returned home, $4,300 in cash and possessions were missing from his home.

Items missing include his .38 Special revolver.

Friday, the victim reported when he arrived at his Poole Road home that morning, he found his front door wasn’t closed properly and discovered the door had been pried open “by a screwdriver or a similar device,” according to the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office incident report. The damage to the door and frame is estimated to be $500.

From there, it only got worse.

The report states, “He reported that the bedroom of his residence had been ransacked. All of the dresser drawers had been gone through. He reported that he had a .38 Special revolver missing from the bedroom as well as two safes containing money.”

The thief or thieves also made off with the victim’s 55-inch Samsung LCD TV from the bedroom, valued at $1,000. There was an attempt to steal the living room television as well, but it was left at the house.

The report says footprints were found in mud by the home and were photographed, and latent fingerprints were located and taken into evidence.

The report lists the home as being last secured at 2 a.m. on Jan. 16, and the victim found his home broken into at 9:30 a.m. Friday. The incident was reported to law enforcement at 10:16 a.m.

Perpetrators of the crime may be charged with breaking and entering, felony larceny and larceny of a firearm.

The case remains under investigation.
