Public asked to help provide IDs
George Denmark Jr., a former Free Press photographer, took many photographs in 1961 of the raising of the CSS Neuse Ironclad from the Neuse River.
Among them is this photo of three boys looking at artifacts from the recovery site, including a coat rack, brass bar and a strainer for the water intake pump. Denmark took the photo Nov. 18, 1961.

Send-off reception scheduled
There will be a going away party for Sarah Albritton, Distinguished Young Woman of Kinston-Greene County, at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Community Council for the Arts.
Albritton will be leaving Feb. 1 to settle in with her host family in preparation for the state program Feb. 8 and 9 in Greensboro.
The public is invited to enjoy light refreshments and give a show of support to Albritton.
Learn to free yourself from debt
Lenoir Community College Small Business Center and the Kinston-Lenoir County Chamber of Commerce are presenting “Be Free from Debt’s Hold” from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday in Room 313 of the LCC Small Business Center, 327 N. Queen St.
In this workshop, participants will learn a simple yet effective method to start the process of becoming debt free. Issues to be addressed will include learning about the scams, shams and “quick fixes” to avoid to legally and effectively deal with creditors. Bring a list of debts with balances and monthly payments and learn to develop a debt elimination plan to implement immediately. Bring a calculator.
Take advantage of this free workshop if you want to pay off consumer debt, credit cards, car payments and loans, and know the exact month and year to expect to be out of debt, legally and without a tax liability.

Healing through humor on tap
Continuum Home Care and Hospice of Kinston will be having a presentation on “Healing Your Heart through Humor and Laughter” at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 6 at the Lenoir County Council on Aging’s Skinner Center, 112 E. Blount St.

Shopping expo to benefit Greene Lamp
A “Shop ’til You Drop” charity expo will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 9 at Contentnea Center (the former Contentnea Elementary School) at 2909 Grainger Station Road.
This event is to raise money for and awareness of Green Lamp Head Start. All types of vendors will be on hand. Since it is the weekend before Valentine’s Day, there will be a special “For Women Only” room were women can be pampered with spa devices.
