Sleep Center manager addresses Rotary
Cindy Dail, manager of the Cardiopulmonary Department at Lenoir Memorial Hospital, described the features of the new Sleep Center and detailed the symptoms of people who may need to use the facilities due to conditions like sleep apnea.
She stated that excessive daytime sleepiness, snoring or sleeping poorly at night may be indications of this condition. Dail gave the club members a "sleepiness" exam to test their possibilities.
The club meets at 6 p.m. Tuesdays at the House of Wang.
White retires from law firm
Thomas J. White III has retired from White & Allen, P.A. to enjoy a lighter schedule and concentrate on his practice as a mediator and arbitrator. White has been certified as a mediator by the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission since August 1998.
A native of Kinston, White attended preparatory school at Woodberry Forest School in Orange, Va., and was a John Motley Morehead Scholar at UNC, graduating in 1963. He became licensed to practice in North Carolina in August 1966 after graduation from the UNC School of Law. The Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity honored him as the outstanding graduate of his class.
Following a law clerkship with United States District Judge John D. Larkins Jr., White initially practiced in the Kinston law partnership of White, Hooten & White with his father, Thomas J. White Jr., and John R. Hooten. In 1969, he co-founded with them and William A. Allen Jr. and John M. Hines the law firm of White, Allen, Hooten, & Hines, later to become White, Allen, Hooten, Hodges and Hines, P.A., with the addition of James A. Hodges Jr., the predecessor firm of today’s White & Allen, P.A.
After engaging initially in a general civil, criminal, real estate and family law practice as a young lawyer, White focused on the preparation and trial of civil cases in negligence and product liability claims, private and business contractual disputes, wills and estate matters and real estate disputes. He is experienced in railroad, aviation and admiralty cases and is an FAA licensed pilot and a USCG licensed maritime captain.
In addition to his association with national legal organizations, White is a member of the N.C. State Bar, N.C. Bar Association, the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference and the Eastern North Carolina Inn of Court. He is a past-president of the Lenoir County Bar Association, is on the Board of Trustees of Lenoir Community College and is immediate past-president of the Lenoir County Historical Association.
White plans to continue to maintain residences in Kinston and at Atlantic Beach and to conduct mediated settlement conferences and serve as arbitrator throughout Eastern North Carolina and in the Raleigh-Durham-Triangle area.
He is an avid outdoorsman and hopes to spend time hunting, fishing, at home and traveling with his best friend and wife, Nancy, and visiting his children and grandchildren, who live in Raleigh.
