Southwood Ruritans share club activities

The Southwood Ruritan Club recently elected new officers for 2013. Installed by Gerald Simmons, the new officers are Nelson Killingsworth, chaplain; Linda Hill, secretary; Leslie Jones, treasurer; Susan Baker, vice president; and Roger Hill, president.

The club also recently held a half and half drawing as a fundraiser to continue being able to help out when needed with various community projects and benefits.

Steve Roman was the winner and was presented a check for $776 by Linda HIll.

 

TPA annual meeting set for Friday

Kinston Post V of the Traveler’s Protective Association will hold its annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. Friday at King’s Restaurant. All members are urged to attend.

The meeting is a winter event to recognize members and give support to the local community. Glenda Kornegay, president, encourages members to bring food items to donate to Mary’s Kitchen.

Antuan Hawkins and Chris Raines will provide after-dinner entertainment. Hawkins and Raines are local musicians who enjoy performing before appreciative audiences.

 

Library offers museum program

The Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library will host the return of the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences at 4 p.m. Thursday.

The topic will be discovering some of the common animal constellations and learning about the names of the stars in the sky. The presenter will bring some of the museum’s live animals and discuss the legends surrounding the constellations. All ages are welcome.

Kinston business earns excellence award
