The local Chapter AI of PEO, the Philanthropic Educational Organization, will hold its annual card party from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 14 in the fellowship hall of the First Presbyterian Church, 2101 N. Herritage St.
This event has proven to be anticipated in the lives of many supporting women in Kinston and surrounding areas. Cards and games of any type can be played, and the morning is not limited to bridge.
Tickets sell for $20, which includes an opening coffee time and a lunch prepared by the PEO. All supporters can take a $15 tax deductible credit for supporting educational scholarships. The funds raised go to scholarships for women who seek assistance in many areas, such as the Scholar Award that is a competitive award for women pursuing a graduate degree or engaged in advanced study or research.
The Educational Loan fund provides financial assistance to qualified women seeking higher education after high school. The Star Scholarship provides a one-time $2,500 award to a high school senior woman who wishes to attend college. The Program for Continuing Education provides assistance to a woman whose education was interrupted and now is able to continue her studies for a degree. Since all funds raised will go toward scholarships, the money is tax deductible.
It is possible to support the project without participating in the card games. Lunch can be eaten in or ordered to take out. Many working friends take advantage of this offer. There will be no sale of tickets at the church, so all lunches must have a reservation.
Tickets are available now from all PEO members or by calling Frances Parker at 252-523-5369. Card club groups are encouraged to use this time to gather for their regular meeting for fun and fellowship.
