Hammer Out CrossFit has first challenge
A workout starting with finding a max couple deadlift weight was the first Valentine Challenge of Hammer Out CrossFit of Kinston.
The challenge held Feb. 16 continued into a workout named ‘Fight Gone Bad,’ consisting of three rounds of one minute each of wall balls, sumo-deadlift high pulls, box jumps, push presses, and rowing for calories, with one minute of rest between rounds. The score was from total weight achieved in couples deadlift, plus number of repetitions for each round, a total of 17 minutes per heat.
Clifton Regis of Ayden and Margaret Rountree of Hobbsville were first-place winners, with 958 points. Corey and Lindsey Brown of Winterville were second-place winners with 896 points.
Karate tournament scheduled
The Little Union Academy of Martial Arts will present the 10th annual March Madness Open Karate Championship from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Kinston High School Gymnasium.
The tournament features all martial arts styles and welcomes children and adults to compete against others from North and South Carolina, Virginia and other states.
There is an entrance fee of $5 each for spectators. Face painting and a coloring station also will be part of the family event.

Bridge club names winners
The Fairfield Duplicate Bridge Club played the second session of a club championship March 12.
Second session winners were: Joe Goldwasser and Pearl Schechter, first place; Tempie Pierce and Emily Exum, second; Edith Cahn and Nancy Barwick, third; and Eva Balknight and Jenny Holt, fourth.
Overall winners were: Joe Goldwasser and Pearl Schechter, first; Edith Cahn and Nancy Barwick, second; and Tempie Pierce and Emily Exum, third.
A regular game will be played at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday at Fairfield Center. The club welcomes and encourages all bridge players.

Young Professionals plan egg hunt
The Young Professionals of Lenoir County will host their annual Easter Egg Hunt from 6 to 7:30 p.m. March 26 in the backyard of Harmony Hall, 109 E. King St.
There will be two egg hunts, one for children 4 and younger and a second one for children 5 and older. Participation is free.
