The Lenoir County Extension and Community Association held its annual achievement luncheon Feb. 15 at the Extension center. Neuse Club President Anne Gaddis presided and Katherine Pierce gave the invocation.
Tammy Kelly, extension director, brought greetings, and Carolyn Sutton recognized special guests. Marva Brown presented certificates to members with perfect attendance during the past year — Gaddis, Pierce, Sutton and Mary Tyndall.
Jean Smith presented certificates to members who participated in the reading program, including Susan Baker, 11 books; Brown, 15; Alma Fields, 20; Gaddis, 24; Margie Hunter, 39; Pierce, 22; Betty Smith, 19; Sutton, 77; Mary Tilghman, 53; Tyndall, 37; Barbara Vause, 21; Flora Moore, 2; Jane Wood, 8; Bonnie Gaddis, 4; Joyce Grant, 4; and Betty Haynes, 4.
Cultural Arts Co-Chairman Tyndall recognized members who participated and won ribbons in the recent Cultural Arts contest — Brown, Anne Gaddis, Tyndall, Sutton, Grant, Betty Davis, Vause, Pierce, Glenda Kornegay, Jean Smith and Sarah Crowe.
Kelly presented the Community Volunteer and Service Award certificates, recognizing the total number of hours involved in community and ECA activities. Receiving certificates were: Grant, 479 hours; Betty Smith, 233; Joan Wiggins, 306; Jean Smith, 372; Brown, 855; Pierce, 1,073; Davis, 277; Haynes, 386; Vause, 169; Tyndall, 235; Sutton, 600; Anne Gaddis, 953; and Kornegay, 507.
Trudy Pickett, liaison agent, recognized Linda Hill, Nancy Berise and Jennifer Stroud, office staff members, for their many hours of work assisting the Neuse ECA Club during the year.
Picket also presented the Outstanding Member Award to Pierce. This award honors the individual who has given freely of her time for ECA and best exemplifies the spirit of ECA.
