The third annual Rodney E. Squires Jr. Automotive Mechanics Scholarship was awarded to Anthony Reynolds, a student enrolled in the Automotive Technology Program at Lenoir Community College.

The scholarship was established in honor of the late R.E. Squires Sr. and Dorothy A. Squires and in memory of Rodney E. “Buster” Squires Jr., a former co-owner and operator of Auto Generator and Starter in Kinston where he worked for almost 36 years. He loved what he did and was always eager and willing to stop and help others and to give back to his community.

Buster Squires’ parents moved to Kinston from Greenville in 1955 to open the business. The family business is now owned and operated by Steve and Frances Squires.

Born Oct. 10, 1949, Buster Squires died Sept. 14, 2009. The scholarship was established by his wife Rose through the LCC Foundation, and is awarded annually to a promising student who is committed to a career in automotive mechanics
