The following restaurant rating information was provided by the Lenoir County Health Dept.:
 
Vine Swamp General Store
2415 Vine Swamp Road, Kinston
Score: 97.5
Inspection date: 1/24
 
Observations:
 
By Jan. 14, 2014, a certified food protection manager must be onsite during all hours of operation.
 
No person in charge and duties are not being performed.
 
Need paper towels at hand-washing sink in utensil sink room.
 
Heating sausage or hot dogs in microwave - you must cover product and allow it to stand covered two minutes in microwave after cooking, and you should check temperature to ensure it reaches 165F in all parts of the food.
 
Prep refrigerator is too warm. Hot dogs and sausage were only potentially hazardous foods in there. Two cases of sausage and one package of hot dogs were discarded. This unit must be repaired.
 
One Kaboom bottle has been refilled with something. This was discarded.
 
Food employees must wear effective hair restraints - including beard restraint. Employee today has on a cap but no beard restraint.
 
Single-service items (styrofoam clam-shell type plates, bowls) need to be protected from dust, splash, etc.
Domestic Fry Daddy is not a certified piece of equipment for use here.

Stem-thermometer off by 12F and no way to calibrate it. Replace with accurate thermometer.
 
Wiping cloths cannot be left out on surfaces. When finished using it - immediately place it in sanitizer bucket.

Quats sanitizer is less than 200ppm in three-compartment sink.
 
Beef thawing at room temperature and in pooled water.
 
Wet wiping cloths are not in sanitizer.
 
Employees shall wear approved hair restraint.
 
Wash water is 91F; shall be 110F or more.
 
Partially burned cigar and lighter on prep table. Same prep table is soiled.
 
Right serving line is unplugged and temperatures range from 47-58F. Food discarded. Unit plugged in an holding.
