The Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library and the Kinston-Lenoir County Friends of the Library will welcome acclaimed speaker James Holte to kick off events scheduled for Let’s Read 2013 during April.
The ECU professor will present a program at 7:30 p.m. March 28 on the lasting impact created by classical mythology. The program will be in the library’s Schechter Auditorium, 510 N. Queen St.
The event will mark the beginning of Let’s Read, a community-wide celebration of reading throughout the month of April. The book at the center of this year’s programming will be Edith Hamilton’s “Mythology.” Holte’s presentation will explore some of the most enduring themes of the mythological tales contained in Hamilton’s book.
Along with other special events, a mythology poetry contest will be held for middle and high school students to create poems inspired by Greek, Roman or Norse mythology. Prizes will be awarded for first-, second- and third-place winners in each age group. The entry deadline is April 5, and winners will be notified April 12, with an awards ceremony set for April 23.
Guidelines, instructions and an entry form are available on the library’s website.
For the Holte presentation, seating is limited, so call 252-527-7066, ext. 120 to make reservations. For more information on Let’s Read events and a full schedule of programming, visit neuselibrary.org.
