Two Kinston teens went behind bars on multiple gun charges.
A report of shots fired near the 200 block of West Highland Avenue led officers with the Kinston Department of Public Safety to a house on the block. After a knock on the door, it opened and a scent of marijuana wafted out.
“He went inside — from the marijuana, they got a search warrant,” KDPS spokesman Woody Spencer said. “During the search, they found a Taurus 9 mm handgun, a cell phone, an iPod, a holster. They found 9mm shell casings, .22-caliber ammunition and 9 mm ammunition. They also found a sawed-off .22-caliber rifle with a 50-round magazine.”
According to the incident report, a B.B. pistol was also recovered at the scene.
Officers placed Sadequin Alif Anderson, 18, and Ryan Claud Mosley, 19, under arrest. Deshakeem Turnage, 19, received a citation for simple possession of marijuana.
It was the sawed-off Ruger 10/22 rifle with the 50-round clip that earned the stiffest charges for Anderson and Moseley — possession of a weapon of mass destruction.
According to the Ruger website, the rifle is “ideally suited for informal target shooting, ‘plinking,’ small-game hunting and action-shooting events.” The magazine, according to the manufacturer, is also supposed to be used for target shooting without frequent reloading.
Both Anderson and Mosely are also charged with possession of a gun with an altered serial number. Because he was 17 at the time of his arrest, Anderson received a charge of possession of a handgun by a minor, as well.
Anderson and Mosley are due in Lenoir County District Court April 11.
