Kinston’s Beauty Box is ready for a second SPCA(Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) fundraiser, which Tonya Adams, owner and stylist, is hoping to make an annual event.
On her birthday last year — March 22, the animal lover wanted to do something special for her big year: 40. Adams decided to donate half of the shop’s earnings that day to the Lenoir County SPCA.
Some stylists will be booked during Tuesday’s event, so everyone who is able to participate will.
The shop will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and people can come in to show their support for the animal shelter. Last year, the Beauty Box raised about $1,000 and several bags of dog and cat food.
“I’d like to beat what we did last year,” Adams said. “Even if (customers) can’t get a service that day, they can buy a gift certificate. If they don’t want anything done, they can just drop off some food.”
She said food bags will be placed outside of the shop so people can inquire about the fundraiser.
For those who don’t want a salon service, they can buy a gift card and proceeds will go to SPCA. People who bring a bag of dog or cat food to the Beauty Box Tuesday will be entered in a drawing for a manicure, pedicure, facial or massage.
“It’s a win-win situation,” Adams said.
She said last year, SPCA was appreciative and the president came out to the salon to thank the stylists.
“I’m a sucker for animals,” Adams said. “If I could save every one of them, I would. You can’t do that, so you do what you can to help out.”
