Shop for Life
Sue Ellen Maddux, director of Marketing and Special Events with the Woodmen Community Center, has receives two tickets to the Shop for Life event from Jane Wynne, Field Controls Relay for Life team captain, and Jenny Daughety, team member and Shop for Life chairwoman.
The vendor shopping fundraiser, sponsored by the Field Controls team, will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Woodmen Community Center.Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door or by calling 252-208-7333 or 252-208-7321.

Bridge club names winners
The Fairfield Duplicate Bridge Club played a charity game April 30 for the American Cancer Society.
The winners were: Joe Goldwasser and Lamar Finch, first; Roz Ahrens and Jack Weeden, second; Pinkey Harper and Geneva Hood, third; and Jeannie Exum/Frances Jilcott and Nancy Barwick/Dayle Pond, fourth-place tie.
A regular game will be played at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday at Fairfield Center. The club welcomes and encourages all bridge players.

KHS grad in N.C. State honor society
Spechel Wooten of Kinston has been inducted into Sigma Alpha Pi, the National Society of Leadership and Success at N C. State University in Raleigh. The society has more than 200 college chapters and builds leaders who make a better world. Local chapters offer in-person leadership development and peer-to-peer networking for students around the world.
Wooten was selected at the beginning of spring semester, with the induction ceremony held April 22. Throughout the semester, she has served as the Community Service chairwoman.
A junior criminology and anthropology Bachelor of Arts major, with a forensic science minor, Wooten is a 2010 graduate of Kinston High School. She is the daughter of Malcolm and Sheila Wooten of Grifton, and the granddaughter of Peggy Davis of Kinston.
Kinston woman recognized at N.C. State
Brooke Morgan Wilner of Kinston, a freshman at N.C. State University, was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester and has accepted membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
The organization symbolizes academic achievement and gives students access to career and networking resources, scholarships, travel and service projects on campus and in the community. Membership for first- and second-year college students is by invitation only, based on grade-point average and class standing.
The 2012 graduate of the Epiphany School of Global Studies in New Bern also attended Arendell Parrott Academy. She is the daughter of Sherry Wilner and the granddaughter of Freely and Mary Smith, all of Kinston.
