The suspected shooter of Jaquel Dixon is in jail under a $100,000 bond.

Shelton Mason, 21, turned himself in Monday around 11:30 a.m., according to the Kinston Department of Public Safety.

Police suspect Mason shot Dixon, 19, in the abdomen Friday on the 800 block of East Caswell Street around 10:24 p.m. Officers responded to a call of shots fired and Dixon was transported to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Mason’s charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Officials released Mason from Polk Correctional Institute in April 2012 for a conviction on the same charge from an August 2009 incident, and on an attempted assault inflicting serious bodily injury from October 2010.

Officers continue to investigate a double shooting from 3:59 a.m. Sunday on the 1000 block of McLewean Street.

“We don’t have anything further on those, as we haven’t identified the suspects,” Kinston Department of Public Safety Director Bill Johnson said.

Police say Deshawn Maye, 20, and Jamal Pridgen, 19, were walking along the road when a silver car passed by and two people shot at them, inflicting leg wounds to both men.

They both went to Lenoir Memorial Hospital before sent for further treatment at Vidant Medical Center.
