(AP) — A North Carolina woman is dead after authorities say she charged sheriff’s deputies with a knife.
The Wake County Sheriff’s Office said 33-year-old Misty Michelle Mullins was shot after breaking into a second home around midday Friday. Deputies responded to a 911 call that a woman had broken into a previous home and threatened the resident with a garden rake.
Three officers say they entered the second house and tried to subdue Mullins with stun guns as she charged at them with a knife or a machete. Authorities say Deputy Gabriel Romero then shot and killed Mullins.
A standing protective order barred Mullins from one of the homes.
