UPDATE:

A three-vehicle accident on U.S. 258 South in front of the City of Kinston Public Services Complex completely shut down the busy highway around 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

According to a witness statement, State Highway Patrol Trooper Scott Hemby said a Honda CRV was traveling in the northbound lane and crossed the center line. A truck carrying 18 head of cattle swerved to miss the CRV but collided with it, sending the CRV onto its side. The cattle truck continued in the southbound lane and collided with a tractor-trailer, owned by Carolina Ice Company.

The female driver of the Honda suffered injuries, although Hemby doesn't yet know what they are; she was transported to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville via EastCare helicopter. The drivers of the cattle truck and the tractor-trailer were OK.
