Parrott Academy’s quest for eight in a row ran into a little resistance from Mother Nature Thursday at Maddux Field.

The Patriots, unbeaten so far in the East Carolina Scholastic Summer League, were locked in a 3-3 tie with Snow Hill when the rains came in the top of the fifth inning. No completion date has been set.

Snow Hill actually led 3-0 before Parrott rallied with a run in the second and then two unearned markers in the bottom of the fourth.

Bailey Ormond opened the game with a base hit and eventually scored on an infield out by Kevin Ormond. Bryson Norman added an RBI single in the top of the second for Snow Hill to go along with a run-scoring groundout by Graham Anderson.

The 3-0 advantage didn’t last long.

Charlie King delivered a one-out single for the Patriots in the bottom of the second then raced home on a clutch, two-out base hit to right by Zack Hill.

Consecutive infield errors by Snow Hill to open the fourth put the tying runs at first and third. John McLawhorn delivered a sacrifice fly to trim the deficit to 3-2, and then King came through again, ripping an RBI single back through the box that nearly decapitated Snow Hill pitcher Nick Kearney.

Norman was at bat leading off the fifth when the game was postponed.

APA kept its undefeated record intact with a thrilling 5-4 victory over North Lenoir Black Wednesday.

The Patriots took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth thanks to some aggressive and alert base running.

Trailing 3-2 and with runners at second and third, Parrott’s Jared Hill swung at a third strike that bounced into the dirt and rolled to the backstop.

Zack Hill scored the tying run from third, and as the Hawks attempted in vain to throw out Jared Hill at first, APA speedster Zacchaeus Rasberry scampered all the way from second, narrowly beating the throw back to the plate.

NL Black fell to 5-1 with its first loss of the season.
