UPDATE 10 p.m.

Kinston power crews have isolated the power outage to the failure of an arrestor at the Rouse Road substation, said Rhonda Barwick, director of Kinston Public Services.

Utility workers will investigate the reason why the arrestor failed Thursday morning. Power should be up for all customers around 10:30 p.m.

Earlier story:

About 3,000 customers across Lenoir County have experienced a power outage this evening, with about 2,000 customers still without power, said Rhonda Barwick, director of Kinston Public Services.

The cause of a power outage, which occurred at about 7:30 p.m., is unknown at this time. But it’s not related to a traffic accident, Roger Dail, Lenoir County Emergency Services director, tweeted around 8 p.m.

Three sub-stations and the point of delivery have been affected, Barwick said. The substations are on Western Boulevard near Hardee Road, Hull Road and Rouse Road.

Areas across Kinston and into portions of La Grange are affected, with some restoration in the Sutton Road area, according to tweets on Twitter.

It’s not known when all customers will be back on line, Barwick said.

“They’re still looking at the problem,” she said.
