Mr. and Mrs. Roger King of Kinston celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a 6 p.m. dinner June 15, 2013, at Walnut Creek Country Club in Goldsboro. Hosting the event were their son, R. Keith King; daughter-in-law Lesley Foss King; and grandchildren, Carey and Mary George King of La Grange.

After the social hour, family and friends — some from as far away as South Carolina — enjoyed a buffet. Keeping with tradition, the anniversary couple cut the first slice of the three-tiered cake, which was adorned with fresh flowers.

Mrs. King is the former Norris Jenkins of Trenton. She attended LCC earning her AA, after which she transferred to ECU and received her master’s degree. She taught in the Kinston City Schools for 20 years before retiring in 1991. She then studied at LCC and became a real estate broker, which she has enjoyed for the last 20 years.

Mr. King graduated from Pink Hill High School. After five years of military service, he joined the Kinston Police Department. He retired as lieutenant in 1984. Since retirement, he has managed the couple’s rentals.

The Kings were married June 15, 1963, in Dillon, S.C.
