Rotarian shares knowledge of international clubs
When Dr. John Tindall was in the United States Air Force Reserve, he visited Rotary clubs in his world travels.
The Kinston dermatologist shared his experiences with fellow Rotarians at a recent Kinston Evening Rotary Club meeting. As he traveled throughout the U.S., Norway, France, Turkey, Japan, Australia and countries in Africa, as shown on the world map, he attended “make-up meetings.” He also attended Rotary Club No. 1 in Chicago, where Rotary was founded. He said he was welcomed and treated politely at the clubs around the world.
Kinston Evening Rotary meets at 6 p.m. Tuesdays at the House of Wang.
ECU honors Kinston doctor
Dr. Charles Classen has received the Faculty Teaching Award for 2013 from the Brody School of Medicine Department of Family Practice. This is his ninth recognition for excellence in teaching and compassion in the last 10 years. Classen has been teaching residents for more than 25 years.
“I love teaching,” Classen said when asked why he does it. Residents go to Lenoir Orthopedics to see patients with Classen, and he teaches them orthopedics. He feels one reason they like shadowing him is that he lets them see patients and form opinions. Classen then tells them whether they are right or wrong.
Lenoir Memorial Hospital extends congratulations to Classen.
Learn infant CPR
The Lenoir Memorial Hospital Minges Wellness Center is offering sessions in infant CPR. “Saving Baby’s Life … When Every Second Counts” is an instructional DVD designed to educate parents and infant caregivers on how to perform infant CPR and what to do for a choking infant.
This class does not provide a certification but will provide the knowledge needed to perform infant CPR through observing an instructional video. This learning tool was developed by Geraldine Hickey, registered nurse and founder of Baby Zone and Beyond. The DVD uses the newly revised 2010 American Heart Association guidelines for infant CPR.
Session times will be at noon and 4 p.m. Wednesdays in the Lenoir Memorial Hospital Minges Wellness Center. For more information and to sign up, call 252-522-7014.
