DEEP RUN — A dispute among neighbors came to a head between Friday and Sunday when a man took his shotgun and killed his neighbor’s dog.

A woman in the 470 block of Pinkney Tyndall Road reported to the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office that one of her pit bulls was missing, and that there was a trail of blood leading away from her yard. LCSO deputies and detectives reported to the scene where they spoke to the suspect, who admitted to shooting the dog.

“He told us the dog was attacking his livestock — the chickens he has in his yard,” LCSO Maj. Ryan Dawson said. “While the dog was actively attacking the chickens, he shot the dog, killing it. At this point, the investigators handling the case are trying to determine what the true matter of it is.”

The Remington pump-action shotgun used in the matter was seized and taken into inventory.

Currently, no charges have been filed in the case.
