A 21-year-old Pinetown man died Monday night in a vehicle accident in front of Lenoir Community College.
Zachary Jay Boyd was killed when his Chevrolet Cavalier was struck by a tractor-trailer at the intersection of U.S. 70 and N.C. 58.
Eyewitnesses told investigators from the Kinston Department of Public Safety that Boyd was on N.C. 58 and at the stoplight preparing to turn onto U.S. 70. When the light turned green, Boyd drove into the intersection but his vehicle was struck by a tractor-trailer driven by Ramon Santiago, 59, of Jacksonville, Fla.
Witnesses said Santiago’s tractor-trailer, owned by McKenzie Tank Lines, ran the red light.
Boyd died from his injuries.
Santiago was transported, treated and released from Lenoir Memorial Hospital. He was later charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
