An unknown assailant stabbed a man and a woman sitting in a vehicle on East Bright Street on Monday.
According to a Kinston Department of Public Safety incident report, two people were sitting in a Chevrolet Blazer in the 1000 block of East Bright Street shortly before 9 p.m. when a man with a knife entered the vehicle.
“(The female victim) said she was in the car with (the male victim) on Bright Street, when an unknown black male got into the car and started stabbing (him),” KDPS spokesman Woody Spencer said. “After he got back out of the car, they drove to the hospital.
“They don’t know who it was that hopped in the car and stabbed him.”
The officer on the case was at Lenoir Memorial Hospital when the couple arrived for medical treatment. The man suffered severe lacerations and was later transported to Vidant Medical Center. The woman had a cut to her hand and was treated at LMH.
The case remains under investigation.
