For those looking to speak out against Obamacare, the Lenoir County Republican Party will be hosting a forum for opinions today.

The Lenoir County Republican Party is sponsoring a “Defund Obamacare Town Hall” meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Lenoir County Courthouse. The Republican parties of Pitt, Greene and Duplin County will co-host the program, along with the Eastern N.C. Tea Party.

“We set up the event because we need our elected officials to understand that the majority of citizens in this county, state and country do not want Obamacare implemented,” Lenoir County Republican Party Chair Michele Nix said.

Nix invited U.S. Representatives G.K. Butterfield, Walter Jones and Mike McIntyre, along with U.S. Senators Richard Burr and Kay Hagan, but none of them will be in attendance. All but McIntyre have previous engagements, and McIntyre is staunchly for Obamacare.

Jones sent a statement to Nix on Tuesday, which read in part, “A comprehensive government takeover that will make it more difficult for the average American to afford insurance is not the health care reform this country needs. Obamacare will only serve as a roadblock to economic growth by plaguing small businesses with excessive regulation, eliminating over one million jobs, and raising taxes.

“That is why I voted against the law each time it was considered in the House of Representatives, and I have cosponsored every piece of legislation aimed at repealing all or part of Obamacare. We must continue the fight against this unprecedented law, which tramples American freedom and imposes a massive debt on future generations.”

The rally is estimated to last approximately 60 to 90 minutes.
