Police officers looking for a Pitt County suspect allegedly found two people with a sizable amount of marijuana and 10 grams of crack.

Kinston Department of Public Safety officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of Simon Bright Court at 2 p.m. on Friday.

“When they made contact with (Tonya Denise) Grady by knocking on the door, once the door was open, there was a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the apartment,” KDPS spokesman Woody Spencer said. “So, the apartment was secured. (Larry Donnell) Williams was found, located hiding under a bed upstairs.”

Spencer said Grady turned over to police a Crown Royal bag containing Schedule II and Schedule VI controlled substances, but officers searched further and seized 158 grams of marijuana, 10 grams of crack, drug paraphernalia, a mobile phone and rifle scopes.

Grady, 40, and Williams, 25, were both charged with the felonies of possession with intent to sell and distribute cocaine, possession with intent to sell and distribute marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Williams also faces numerous other charges related to other alleged crimes in Lenoir and Pitt counties.

In Lenoir County, he was due in court Tuesday on a driving while license revoked charge, and has a future court date for felony possession with intent to sell and distribute cocaine and misdemeanor simple possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance.

He also is due in court for several different alleged Pitt County crimes, including felony breaking and entering and felony larceny, felony larceny after breaking and entering and misdemeanor injury to real property, misdemeanor possession of up to half an ounce of marijuana and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor resisting a police officer.

They were both placed in the Lenoir County Detention Center on $10,500 bonds.
