Bethel Christian Academy remains winless after falling to Trinity Christian, 6-2, Friday.

The Trojans (0-6-1) lost five seniors to graduation and four other starters to transfers this season, so coach Gary O’Neallooks at the 2013 team as junior varsity guys playing against varsity.

There are no seniors half the players are in either seventh or eighth grade, including a young goal keeper.

In the second half, two balls slipped inside the net for easy Tigers points.

“They should have never got the shots,” O’Neal said. “I mean, our fullback should have stopped the defense before that. That’s the first time that kid’s ever played goalie.”

Trinity (2-2) took 21 shots, while five were defended.

“A lot of these guys have never played soccer before and they’re just learning,” O’Neal said. “We’re sort of trying to build for the future. When I saw we were down 4-2 – we just don’t have the speed to score that many goals.”

Bethel came back from the first half trailing, 2-1, with midfielder Michael Fulcher scoring the first goal for the Trojans. In the 29th minute, streaker Christian Herbert scored on a free kick to make the score 3-2.

The Trojans travel to Greenville Tuesday to take on Greenville Christian Academy (0-3) in a conference matchup.

“When you give them four goals like we gave them, you can’t win many games like that,” O’Neal said about the loss. “It’s a tough season, but we’ll come along.”
