“Jobs for Life” is here!
In my last two articles here, I have written about Jobs for Life and what this program or ministry can do in Kinston.
JfL partners with churches and organizations to enable unemployed and underemployed individuals obtain and maintain meaningful employment. The JfL process seeks to transform lives and communities through the dignity of work. In doing do, JfL offers a unique solution to poverty and joblessness in communities and to individuals across the country.
The heart of the process is the JfL class, which consists of 16 sessions and teaches timeless biblical principles concerning work and the ways those principles are applied in the marketplace. The class takes the students on a journey to discover who they are, their unique value and the principles they need to overcome roadblocks in their lives. These classes will help students learn how to get and keep a job.
I wrote before that plans were underway to establish two JfL sites, at The Gate and at Spilman Baptist Church. Those are now established. The Gate has completed more than half of the 16 sessions with young adults, and Spilman will start its sessions for adults beginning Sept. 22.
We are looking for students and volunteers for JfL. We need volunteers to mentor and encourage the students, and others to pray for this ministry. The Spilman site is ready to enlist students.
Call Wanda Hall at The Gate, 252-933-3223, or me at Spilman Baptist Church, 252-522-3011, for more information, to volunteer or enroll as a student.
Jobs for Life could be a game changer for Kinston.
