DEEP RUN – At 11:45 p.m. Friday, a brown Belgian horse in the 4000 block of Live Oak Hog Company Road was doing fine in its pasture. By 9:30 a.m. the next day, it was dead.

An investigation by Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office and the horse’s veterinarian determined it had been shot through its left eye, killing it.

The LCSO announced a reward for information leading to an arrest of the person responsible.

“This is a case of sadistic evil and I want the suspect to experience the full weight of the justice system,” Lenoir County Sheriff Chris Hill said. “I am offering a $1,000 reward for credible information that directly leads to the arrest of this heartless individual.”

Residents with information are advised to call the LCSO at 252-559-6140 or go to the LCSO’s website at lenoircountysheriff.com.
