‘Hamlet’ with the headmaster
In addition to his duties as Arendell Parrott Academy’s headmaster, Peter M. Cowen teaches “A Separate Peace” to all sophomore English classes and William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” to all senior English classes.
This fall, Cowen added a three-evening “Hamlet” class to his schedule for 14 Parrott Academy parents, grandparents and friends.
This class provided an opportunity for parents to model life-long learning for their children.
Human rights service scheduled
The Kinston/Lenoir County Church Women United Unit will meet Oct. 4 at White Rock United Presbyterian Church, 514 Thompson St., Kinston, for its Human Rights Celebration. Registration and refreshments will be at 9:30 a.m. and the worship program will be at 10 a.m.
This celebration was started to bring to light those who have worked and are working towards equality for all. It is a time to remember that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms without distinction of any kind, such as race, color, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.
This is the same message that Jesus gave when he said, “Love one another as I have loved you.” This has been the message of CWU since its beginning and will continue to serve as a pillar that supports and drives its mission.
