Lenoir Community College swept conference matchup Louisburg College Wednesday after returning home from an 8-game road streak that started with a 3-1 win over the Hurricanes.
The Lancers topped Louisburg 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-18), evening their conference record to .500. LCC is 7-10 overall and 4-4 in Region 10 division after Wednesday’s win. Blocking was huge in the victory as the Lancers tacked 15.
Middle blocker Deshona Cox led LCC with 5 blocks, often assisted by Caroline Jones or Elaina Price.
Blocking helped Louisburg break ahead of the Lancers in the third set Wednesday, as the Hurricanes went up 17-16. But Cox had an answer for them on three straight points. She swatted an overpass down to the unsuspecting Canes and tipped the ball to another empty spot for the next point.
When Louisburg trailed by only two, a couple of late hitting errors gave up crucial points. Coach Colby Mangum said such mistakes may have cost her team the match.
When the Lancers weren’t converting blocks into points, they could rely on their 32 kills. Cox recorded eight, while Perry led LCC with nine. The team kept their attacking errors to a minimum, with only 11 to Louisburg’s 20.
With a clearly improved team, LCC travels to Lance-Granville CC Friday to start their last road streak of the regular season.
