A domestic dispute could have been much worse as a man fell out of the back of his girlfriend’s car as she tried to get away.
An officer with the Kinston Department of Public Safety responded to a call in the 700 block of Doctors Drive and made contact with Darryl Lee Jones, 28.
“When the officer arrived, he found Mr. Jones, who had abrasions on his right arm and both legs, his knee and right foot,” KDPS spokesman Woody Spencer said. “He told officers that his girlfriend, who is the other person – Jocelyn Waters, they have a child in common – they got into an altercation.”
According to the incident report, Waters arrived on the scene and told the officer Jones grabbed her face during the altercation, so she took the keys to a gold Mercury Grand Marquis coupe and their 2-year-old child, placing the child in the car.
“Then, Mr. Jones attempted to crawl through the back window, pulling the back window glass down and trying to get in,” Spencer said. “She took off while he was halfway in the vehicle while he was halfway in the vehicle.”
The car is believed to have been going 25 mph at the time.
Police arrested Jones for misdemeanor simple assault.
Waters was booked into the Lenoir County Detention Center under a $1,000 bond for misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon.
They’re due in Lenoir County District Court on Dec. 16.
