There are a number of ways to break into an automatic teller machine, but at Lenoir Community College, the method was brute force.

Sometime between 11 p.m. on Nov. 8 and when staff reported the next morning someone busted open an ATM at LCC, taking an undisclosed amount of money.

“A security guard at LCC reported someone broke a window to the student lounge area and damaged an ATM,” said Woody Spencer, spokesman for the Kinston Department of Public Safety. “We were called in to process the scene.”

There was another ATM break-in around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday at Pitt Community College in Winterville. Spencer said KDPS investigators have plans to talk with PCC police and see if the two incidents are connected.

The damage at LCC was valued at $200 for the door and $2,000 for the ATM.
