Vivian Howard, star of the nationally syndicated “A Chef’s Life” and co-owner of Chef and the Farmer, will be having her annual Thanksgiving demonstration at the Farmer’s Market on Saturday.
The event, which will start at 11 a.m. and is free to the public, will be focused on creating side dishes for the holiday and providing those in attendance with recipes.
Farmer’s Market manager Pat Jenkins said the event is one of the bigger ones held at the market.
“It’s always anticipated, always delicious and people look forward to it every year,” Jenkins said. “I’m excited and can’t wait. Vivian does so much as a mother, chef, wife and businesswoman, and it’s wonderful that she’s taking to time to show us how to cook different side dishes and give us a look inside a chef’s life.”
Jenkins said she doesn’t know what Howard will be creating.
“The side dishes she’ll be making will be completely up to her and will be a surprise,” she said. “She might not know either at this point.”
Howard was unavailable for comment Thursday, as she worked on future episodes for the show at Emerald Isle. Her husband, Ben Knight, said he wasn’t sure what she would be making, but had a couple of ideas.
“Generally, this time of the year she loves to cook greens,” Knight said. “She might also do a candied yam and pecan dish and she talked about possibly doing a sausage stuffing.”
Knight said Howard enjoys her time at the Farmer’s Market and doing demonstrations.
“She loves showcasing the ingredients at the market in front of people,” Knight said. ‘Most of the items at her demonstrations or what we use at the restaurant are purchased from the Farmer’s Market.”
For those who are unable to attend, there are other recipes which can be found on the show’s website.
“If you go on achefslifeseries.com, there are plenty of recipes there,” Knight said. “Several of those recipes are great for Thanksgiving.”
