Chris and Jenny Hatcher, of the Kinston/Lenoir County Parks and Recreation Department, decorate the Kinston Christmas tree on the lawn of the Lenoir County Courthouse on Monday. The Hatchers were married earlier this month and just returned from their honeymoon in Jamaica. The Kinston Christmas tree will have its official lighting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3; its lighting will trigger all the lights on Queen Street. ‘This has become a community favorite to launch holiday shopping in downtown Kinston,’ Pride of Kinston Director Adrian King said. The tree-lighting next Tuesday will kick off the seventh annual Holly Days Celebration on the Neuse, which includes entertainment by the Kinston High School band, the Arendell Parrott Academy chorus and the Lenoir Boys and Girls Club chorus. Merchants in downtown will be open longer hours to accommodate customers while other entertainment activities will center on the Herritage Landing shopping district.
