The Board of Directors and members of the Kinston-Lenoir County Friends of the Library held their annual meeting Monday in the library’s Schechter Auditorium to elect officers and set goals for the upcoming year.
Officers elected included Mike Parker, president; Wilma Boldt, vice president; Lloyd Moody, treasurer; Maxine Fisher, corresponding secretary; and Brenda Woodley, recording secretary.
At the meeting, the board planned for future programming and fundraising. Friends sponsor a wide range of literary, musical and informational presentations at the library.
The 2012 series included appearances by literary lecturer Elliot Engel, antiques appraiser Michael Cable, festival favorite Al Batten and the Bluegrass Reunion, the Public Library High School Quiz Bowl competition, and Without Further Ado featuring Clyde Mattocks.
In the upcoming months, the Friends will host bookmark contests, musical talents, literature lectures, and children’s programming for the library patrons.
Friends of the Library relies on memberships to provide funding for library programming and special projects. Annual memberships start at $5 for students. Individuals can join for $10 and families for $15. Friends giving $50 or more are credited in the library’s monthly calendar. Corporate memberships are also available.
“The Library is fortunate to have a very active Friends of the Library group,” said Agnes Ho, director of libraries for the Neuse Regional Library System. “The programs they help us to offer and their efforts to raise funds for providing more library programs are greatly appreciated.”
