St. Mary’s Episcopal Church will hold their second annual Cookie Walk from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the church’s  Moseley Hall. The women and men of St. Mary’s have been cooking up their favorite homemade treats in an effort to provide just the right combination of cookies for gifts, party trays or cookie jars. Guests will be invited to pick up a box, fill it with a variety of delicious cookies and pay just $7 a pound.  A cafe style lunch will be served including homemade soup and fresh crunchy bread for $6.00. For those that came last year looking for a delicious lunch of homemade soup only to be informed that it was all sold take heart, the chefs are doubling their batches.

Proceeds from event and others are used for St. Mary’s Episcopal Church educational outreach ministries locally and globally. Locally, the church supports Northwest Elementary School through a Hand in Hand partnership. Funds are used to provide daily snacks for those who wouldn’t have a break if it wasn’t for these funds. Books are provided so all students have a book at their house to read during the summer months and school supplies are made available to those who can’t afford their own. Globally, the church supports education in the Dominican Republic village of Mosovi by providing scholarships for students that otherwise could not go to high school.

A mission group from St. Mary’s Episcopal Church spent a week in the Dominican Republic last July.  During the stay, it was realized that the school in the village was very limited in what school supplies they had. Donna Wideman, the team translator, met with the teacher to determine what the school’s needs were. Once the list was made, the mission team took great joy in visiting a local store and purchasing $300 worth of supplies.

Help support education for children in our community and for children in the Dominican Republic by buying cookies. Make plans now to join us for the 2013 Cookie Walk. For more information contact the church at 252-523-6146.
