Grand prize: Caribbean cruise or cash
The Kinston-Lenoir County Friends of the Library is selling tickets for the ninth annual cruise drawing. Only 100 tickets will be sold, at $100 each, with all proceeds supporting Friends of the Library programs for the community throughout the year.
Tickets are available through board members or at the Circulation Desk of the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library.
The grand prize is the choice between a two-person, seven-day cruise, or $2,500 in cash. The drawing will be conducted during the “South Pacific Luau Party,” to be held from 4 to 6 p.m. March 3 in the library’s Schechter Auditorium, 510 N. Queen St. Susan Colomaio, owner of Olivia’s in Kinston, will cater, and Dennis Michels and The Carolina Jazz will entertain.

Cupid draws bow for animals
Canines, felines and more are invited to have their photos taken with Valentine’s festive décor for Marley’s Cat Tales’ Be Mine Pet Photo series to be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 9 and from 1 to 5 p.m. Feb. 10 at PetSense, 4130 W. Vernon Ave. All animals and pet owners are welcome.
Patrons will receive three 4- by 6-inch digital photos for a $15 donation to support homeless special needs felines in Marley’s program.
Marley’s Cat Tales is a special nonprofit rescue group for cats with FeLV and FIV. With hundreds of pleas for help, the organization has counseled others in 47 states and Australia, England and Canada to help them understand retroviruses, promote awareness of the need for testing, and prevent unnecessary grief of pet loss. Ninety-eight cats from all over the U.S. are in the foster network program receiving care and medical treatment. Donated items — scoopable litter, dry and canned food, towels, cleaning supplies, bedding and toys — are appreciated and can be brought to the PetSense event.
To help, contact Candice Schafer at 252-347-6719, or Joy Eubanks at 252-661-MEOW or MarleyFund.com.
