The following restaurant inspection results were provided by the Lenoir County Health Department:

 
Rightway
1050 W. New Bern Road, Kinston
Score: 96
Inspection date: 11/6/12
 
Observations:
 
Several utensils and slicer have not been cleaned thoroughly.
Several foods are not dated/marked.
Need disclosure for those foods that may be ordered undercooked.
Dry cake mix is not labeled.
Food employee wearing gloves also wears bracelet and ring.
Clean nonfood contact surfaces as needed.
Clean floors, walls, ceilings as needed (repeat).
 
Crossroads Grocery & Grill
1520 Hugo Road, Kinston

Observations:
 
No person-in-charge present. Discussed previously and during today's inspection.
No soap for hand-wash sink in kitchen.
Slicer has not been cleaned thoroughly.
Foods shall be date marked as required.
Owner states he will not be  under cooking any meats.
Fully-frozen raw chicken in sink thawing at room temperature.
Dumpster shall remain closed.

Observations:
 
By Jan. 1, 2014 a person-in-charge (certified food protection manager) must be on site during inspection (all hours of operation).
Bottles/buckets of sanitizer need to be properly labeled.
Trash can in bathroom needs tight fitting lid.

Observations:
 
No person-in-charge present.
Employees know very little about employee health policy. Manager cannot find policy in handbook.
Manager washes hands with cold water only.
No soap provided for hand-wash sink in utensil wash area (hand sanitizer in this dispenser); soap provided. Dispenser for hand soap in cook area does not work properly. Repair as needed.
Few plastic pans are not clean to sight and touch.
Upper layers of beef meatballs and chicken wings in pizza prep refrigerator are above 45F. 
Spray bottle of sanitizer has no label.
Bring in ice and calibrate as needed.
Personal clothing stored on top of open package of pizza boxes with inside of box exposed. 
Clean nonfood contact surfaces as needed.
Toilet is soiled.
Trash can in restroom is not covered. Trash cans in restrooms used by females shall be covered.
Dumpster is open.
Outside dumpster shall have drain plug in place.
Unnecessary litter shall be removed from premises.
Ceiling damaged. 
 
Lovick's

Observations:
 
A certified person-in-charge must be present during all operating times and during inspection.
Several hand washing concerns.
A hand-washing sink must be conveniently  located for employees in ware-washing areas; dish machine operator does not have easy access to hand-washing sink.
Large chub of ground beef on prep table (still in intact packaging) but placed next to cabbage and containers of spices/seasonings. 
Hot water temps in dish machine - rinse only getting to 148F. Repair person called and will be here after lunch. Set up bleach sanitizer to get them through lunch. Will check back to see if this is corrected this afternoon or tomorrow.
Small pan of fried onions and four pieces of fresh sausage had to be reheated for hot holding.
Sanitizer (bleach) buckets should be properly labeled to show contents in bucket.
Couple of labels have faded (breader, flour).
Wiping cloths must be left dry or stored in bucket of proper strength sanitizer.
Ice scoops are laying on dirty drain board/pan at sink in back. 
Some worn surfaces.
Equipment like sinks, glass door refrigerators must be ANSI certified/classified for sanitation and used properly.
Make sure pressure gauge is present and properly operating on dish machine.
 
 
Taco Bell

Observations:
 
Bags of "carry-over"...beans, chicken, steak, beef had been cooled in ice bath last night. Ice had melted and had food particles in it. Bags sitting in this. The items were double-bagged and did not appear to have been contaminated. This is not the best procedure.
When handling label gun, make sure you change gloves and wash hands.
A small stack of Mexican pizza single use trays were open and exposed to dust.
Need to clean: Drip pans and outer surfaces of drink dispensers.
Garbage cans in kitchen are worn; no longer smooth and easy to clean.
Some floor regrouting needed.
 
Byrd's

Observations:
 
Small container of sliced tomatoes and lettuce are  past discard date.
Chemicals stored on shelf above clean utensils.
Several thermometers are not accurate.
Remember to keep wet wiping cloths in bucket of sanitizer.
Remove all plastic containers that are melted, hard-to-clean.
Get approved storage surface for dumpster.
Add lighting as needed.
