The Benevolent Protective Order of Elks held their annual District Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest Jan. 26 in New Bern.
Two children representing Kinston Elks Lodge 740 won their age category and proceeded to state competition in Greensboro Feb. 16. Michyla Dove won for Girls 10-11, and Evan Clark won for boys 8-9. Both are students at Northeast Elementary School.
Exalted Ruler Jim McLain announced that contestants compete against three others in their respective age category at the state level. Hoop Shoot contestants compete for a chance to become the No. 1 free-throw-shooter in their home state.
