TPA group celebrates annual meeting

Post V members of the Travelers Protective Association recently attended their annual meeting and dinner.

Attendees brought in supplies for Mary’s Kitchen, raised $282 for the Scholarship for the Hearing Impaired and collected tabs for the Ronald McDonald House as their community service projects.

Maidred Stroud, Post V secretary/treasurer and state TPA president, delivered 32,000 tabs totaling 20 pounds to Kim Kazda, development director of the Ronald McDonald House in Greenville.

New officers also were installed at the meeting. Stroud is secretary/treasurer, the Rev. Hank Harman is president, and Lina Gibbs is vice-president.

 

Bridge club names winners

The Fairfield Duplicate Bridge Club played a regular game March 19.

The winners were: Nancy Barwick and Edith Cahn, first place; Roz Ahrens and Jack Weeden, second; Eva Balknight and Jenny Holt; third; and Pearl Schechter and Joe Goldwasser, fourth.

A Sectional Tournament at Clubs game will be played at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday at Fairfield Center. The club welcomes and encourages all bridge players.

Rose Festival plans tournaments

Corn hole and golf tournaments are two parts of a big celebration planned for Pink Hill in mid-April.

A double-elimination doubles-only corn hole tournament will begin at 1 p.m. April 13, the day of the Rose Festival, with a practice time at noon. The gym will provide several sets of boards, and players are allowed to use their own bags. Rules and brackets will be provided at the tournament. The team fee is $50 and can be paid the day of the tournament.

A three-man golf tournament will be played at 8:30 a.m. April 10 at the Key Vista golf course. The first prize for the corn hole tournament is $250 and the first prize for the golf tournament is $100 per player. Contact Thomas Whitfield at 252-560-1725 about these tournaments.

The festival also will have an antique tractor and car show, live music, a Rose Festival Prince and Princesses contest and a dance exhibition. Participants also are needed for coed softball teams, as vendors, chili cook-off cooks and festival sponsors.
