Two men kicked in an apartment door and one took aim at one of the occupants early Monday morning.
The incident occurred on the 1000 block of Faison Street in Kinston at 2:20 a.m. The victims, however, didn’t call 911 — another person nearby called in the disturbance.
“The officers responded to a shots-fired call at the corner of Faison Street and Buxton Street, and after an investigation discovered where the shooting occurred,” said Woody Spencer, spokesman for the Kinston Department of Public Safety.
He added, “(The officers) were advised two males wearing bandannas over their faces kicked the front door in to the apartment. A suspect fired one round from a handgun, striking a couch where one of the victims was sitting just a moment before.”
According to the incident report narrative, the two men fled the scene, running in an unknown direction. They potentially face charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and first degree burglary.
The break-in resulted in $100 damage to the front door and the bullet caused an estimated $100 damage to the couch.
The case remains under investigation.
